For the last weekend of September, Berlin CC played host to the Honourary Artillery Company (HAC) London at Körnerplatz. The two games of cricket were not only played in a good spirit in glorious late autumn conditions, there were also some damn close results too!
On Saturday a first string BCC team performed well but in the end just fell short of the 164 runs set by HAC. Thereafter the Berliners took their guests out on the town in the hope of sabotaging their performance for the next day - with little effect. On Sunday both captains agreed to play a "test match", with both teams receiving two sets of twenty overs to score their runs. Despite being ahead on first innings, Berlin couldn't stop a determined batting performance from HAC in the afternoon. The guests walked out winners with two overs to spare.
Credit to the BCC committee and captain Reuben Davies for their hard work in making the weekend work - as well as Arvind Dewan of HAC and BCC. If your club is interested in playing in Berlin, feel free to get in contact with our Tours Manager David White. |
